Go in the Strength You Have

Judges 6-8 has been my study focus for about the past month.  I have read the story of Gideon countless times, and every time I read it, I get a new pearl.  As is the case with my study in general, it may not necessarily be new information, but rather a new perspective.

One of four things usually happens during my study time:

1.       Some days, a passage will leap off the page, meet me right at my point of need, and make total sense.  I know why I’m reading it and I know what to do.  These are definitely the best days.

2.       Other days, a passage will leap off the page and meet me at my point of need.  I know why I’m reading it, but I don’t know what to do with it.  On days like this, I pray for clarity and wait for an instruction.  For me personally, the instruction usually makes no sense to me.

3.       Some days a passage will leap off the page.  I have no idea why or what I’m supposed to do with it.  These are the days God reminds me of His sense of humor because if I let it marinate long enough, He’ll show me why, and I usually find myself cracking up.

4.       And while I’m being completely honest, some days, nothing.  Or as some would say--“crickets”.  I’ve learned to take great comfort in knowing I made the time to just show up.  God sees and honors it all.

Today, I find myself standing in front of door #2, as I seek guidance on what my next step should be in dealing with “the bully” who has tormented me for the past 8 months.  I haven’t decided if "the bully" is the Midianites, Goliath or the Arameans.  But I know two things: they have been trying to take something from me God gave me and ordained as rightfully mine;  and my Father has promised to "back them up off of me", (that means cause them to cease and desist, for those of you who don't speak Ebonics).  I believe it by faith.

At door # 2, I received the word, “ Go in the strength you have…”, (Judges 6:14).  Not quite sure what to do with that.  “What strength are you referring to, Lord?  I know I’m not a weak worm of the dust, but could you be a little more specific?”  Then came the specific people I should contact to ask to stand in the gap for me.  Then came the instruction to write this post.  And now that I’ve come full circle, in this moment, I realize that the strength I have is My Father's promise that He will do what He said He will do and my intercessors.

Are you struggling with something, a decision, habit, life circumstance or other obstacle that feels insurmountable?

  • Believe by faith that God will do what He said He will do.
  • Find people who will either join their faith with yours or strengthen yours with theirs.
  • Go in the strength you have!
